THE BEST AND EASIEST UNREADABLE DISK FIX ON YOUTUBE! This one actually works and you wont be buying a new laser, or new dvd rom drive for your 360. All you need is to open the 360, open the dvdrom drive, place a piece of foam on a portion of the lasers arm and POOF! You will be playing in no time…THIS IS THE ONLY VIDEO THAT I KNOW OF ON YOUTUBE THAT HAS THIS FIX… I am pretty sure this fixes open tray issues as well… The order I would recommend for fixing your 360 is this: Tutorial on how to open the 360: www.youtube.com 1) Clean the dvd rom lens. This is for the original xbox, but the premise is the same: www.youtube.com 2) If you are having noises from the motor when the game is booting, clean and lubricate the motor spindle. Very good tutorial here: www.youtube.com 3) If your laser is “bouncing” at the center of the disk and not “catching” the game, use my fix. 4) To those that do not have the dvd foam mentioned in the video, there is an alternative fix similar to mine, but will not be a permanent fix as it involves a rubber band and there are issues of it coming loose and breaking. Fixing the “Unplayable Disc” problem for the Xbox 360 Hitachi Disc Drive: 1.) Disassemble your 360 and strip it down to the inner machina. 2.) Unplug the two cords from the back of the disc drive. 3.) Remove the disc drive and use a knife to take off the circular piece on the top of the drive. 4.) Remove the magnet that is placed underneath the circular piece. 5.)Unscrew the top and bottom casings of the disc drive. 6.) Use a lubricant such as WD-40 to lubricate the spindle of the motor on the bottom part of the disc drive. 7.) Super-Glue the washer of the disc drive into place. 8.) Re-plug your disc drive back into your console. 9.) Eject the disc tray. 10.) Place a game disc into the disc tray. 11.) Place the top magnet over the center of your disc. 12.) Close the disc tray. 13.) Make sure the laser reads up and down the entire disc. 14.) Get back to playing your games without the “Unplayable Disc” error. -Tweed

My xbox 360′s disk drive has stopped spinning and Microsoft wants me to pay 100 bucks to fix the thing. Any other fixes besides me having to buy a new dvd drive and hack it?

if you do this, remember to very very slowly tilt the 360. DO NOT tilt it in any other direction while the disc is spinning except up. if you do you will scratch your disc. badly. use at your own risk. this is how i fix any disc read problem with my 360. i’m guessing since the drive is so old the motors are unable to move without the little help of gravity with the faceplate facing up. or it could do something with the magnet that holds the disc in place, i’m not sure yet.
