Xbox live and Disc Reading Problems?

I haven’t played my Xbox 360 S (the all black, 250 gb one) in about three days, so when I went to play it today, it told me i needed to update the console, or else the system will shut down. So I gave it the "okay" to update, and somewhere near the end, the rings around the xbox lit up red (even though the red ring of death was supposed to be eliminated from this version of the console) and some error message in Japanese popped up. Well, I restarted the console, hoping things hadn’t gotten too bad.
Upon restarting it, on first site, it seemed everything was fine, until i went to sign into xbox live. This error message keeps popping up, saying "One or more profiles aren’t valid. Please select a profile that contains a valid membership or recover your profile from Xbox Live". After trying to fix the problem on my own by Googleing it and going to xbox’s website, nothing worked. So, i just blew off using xbox live, and went to play one of my games, but it didn’t work…NONE of my games work, only dvds.
I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions or solutions that don’t require sending in the xbox for repair. I’ve had my xbox less than a month (got it on christmas) so i still have the warranty, but i want sending it in to be more of a last resort thing. Is there anyway to re-install the update? Has anyone else had this problem and have had some type of luck fixing it? Any help would be greatly appreciated

The Red Ring of Death?

Well my fellow Xbox players I have gotten the RROD and i got no error message. i bought my 360 used so i called microsoft and asked them to fix it well i found a fatal error on my xbox my microsoft seal was completely destroyed i asked them and got no straight answer i told them that the previous owner may have taken it apart but they really did not say much. What do i do?
and it was on the front of the xbox the seal was so im mad now

xbox 360 disc repair?

ok i have a 360 and i have assasind creed for the 360 the disc has been scratched and won`t play correctly it`ll play for a while then give the disc error message what do i do short of buying a new one and does blockbuster do disc repair? also does blockbuster put stickers on their game disc or not i`d like to know
