I talk the basics of an XBOX DVD drive , a Hitachi GDR 3120L. If you want to learn more about the internals of a dvd drive and each component this is a good video to check out.

First of all,yes I have read about his problem here and elsewhere.
I am not having 100% not reading discs. Some work,some don’t,others work partially. So here goes.
After getting my Xbox 360 back from Microsoft for the 3 red lights, I been having disc reading issues. It will read C.O.D.4 but no audio at times. It will go to the title screen on Gears2 but then it will read:"….disc may be dirty….". The discs ALL worked before I sent it for repair. Halo3 will not load campaign but will load forge. Newer dvds will not play but older ones will. I do not believe I should have to pay for something that seems like it may be damaged due to shipping,magnet problem,laser damage,or other hardware issue that I did not cause. If I send it to M.S. for repair and spend 0.00, I want to know the problem will be fixed.
It looks like I have a benQ drive. I may just replace it. But,If they broke they should fix it.
They switch out the dvd drive.
I bought my 360 in 2006……
The production date on the drive is Aug.2008!
Soooooo they put in a bad drive.

I don’t have my 1 year warrinty for my 360, and my xbox 360 does read discs. How much will microsoft charge for its repair? I know red rings are like 0, but a dvd drive repair cant be that much.

I recently sent my xbox 360 to get repaired they said they have recieved it, I was wondering how long it would take them to fix the dvd drive if anyone has had similar problems. My xbox 360 basicly wouldnt even try to read any discs. Does aanyone know how long it will take to repair and will they just replace my 360 with a new one

My used Xbox has not been reading my games lately. I would insert the Disk and it would read for a while, but soon it would just say, "Open Tray" After a few frustrating hours, it finally gave me the message E 65. I know that it is the DVD drive, but all I want to know is how i can repair it. It is used from GameStop and the serial code is already registered by the previous owner. Help please.

Ive recently sent my xbox 360 to be repaired because it couldnt read any sort of discs and didnt even try to. Ive just gotten an email saying they have recieved the console. I was just curious how long it would take them to repair the dvd drive or would they just give me another console?…. Plz help

this is my way of fixing the stupid hitachi drive it not the most effective way because if you shake the box too muxh it sometines stops working that about my 3rd time fixing it in total spending baout 10 hours on it but i hope it helps if you dont know your drive find out first as it may be the wrong one add comments please i will reply back with help if doesent work
