How to replace a Toshiba/Samsung DVD drive in an XBox 360 2

Warning, this ONLY applies to the Toshiba/Samsung drive! This is part 2 of a step-by-step walkthrough on how to replace your DVD drive. If you’re games are taking longer and longer to load, you get a lot of dirty disc errors, or worse, you get the screen saying “Place this disc in an XBox 360 to play,” then this is for you. A couple notes: 1. This image will give you a better idea of which screws take out: dancrum.org 2. The white ribbon cables inside the DVD drive are VERY fragile. Be careful! That said, good luck!

@cybergeek100 in the first video, he mentions that this method negates the need to flash the bios because you’re just moving the PCB board to the new drive.

I had the “open tray error” and replaced my TS-H943 drive with a new one (ordered online) as described in these videos. Now I get the “to play this game, put this disc in an xbox 360 console.” Anyone know what happened?

  • badboyazza2009 says:

can you just replace the pcb and it works with the xbox?

  • TheZaksterLive says:

@boarderX140 You need to do what the video shows. You can’t just swap them as each DVD Drive is connected with an xbox. And the circuit board is the bit that holds this info. So by switching the circuit boards over this carries the connection between the Drive and the xbox over… Basically you can’t just switch, follow the video :)

  • boarderX140 says:

@TheZaksterLive. No, I did replace the DVD drive EXACTLY as showed in this video, meaning that I switched the circuit board out as well. I started with the open tray error, now I have this new one.

  • petegrimsby says:

good tutorial. and if anyone has any suggestions for my problem could you help me out here. I just spray painted my xbox gold and i also decided to spray paint the samsung drive gold. when i was finished i plugged it back in plugged power and av cables back in and turned it on. It made an odd short grind noise followed by 3 lower flashing rrod. i investigated and i think my worm motor isn’t alligned or somthing cuss it slams the laser into the cd-rom turn table kinda hard. any help please?anyone
