How do I get Xbox Live Silver on my Xbox without using the Xbox Live Gold free trial you get at the start?

I got my Xbox360 this Christmas and it comes with a free trial of Xbox Live Gold for one month but I want to save that ’till later. I want to get Xbox Silver without using my free trial of Gold so I can unlock the free multiplayer maps in Halo3. How do I do it?

You just have to ignore everything and say that you want to keep silver. Silver stays with your account for unlimited time. But why are you saving your gold? Use it.
