If I buy a years XBOX live now, and at christmas I buy another years XBOX live and renew it on christmas day will I still get the whole two years I payed for?

I’m about to buy an XBox 360, but I want to make sure I buy a good "base" system, so I don’t regret not paying a little more money in the future for some feature that I end up wanting.

My plan is to buy the premium version with the hard drive, as well as get Gears of War. Any other recommendations as to what model, accessories, games that I should purchase? Thanks.

I have a laptop with windows 7 ultimate. I used to be able to connect to xbox live with windows xp via Ethernet cable but since I’ve upgraded, it hasnt work. Did anyone have this problem and know how to fix it?

Btw there is no other laptop in the house that I can use and the modem is too far away for me to plug it in to the laptop.
